HOW do I Start?
How do I start homeschooling? Research. Discuss it with your family. Attend a start-up meeting (see below) and once you’ve decided that homeschooling’s the right choice for you and your children, start browsing the curriculum. There are also several homeschool groups available that offer advice, legalities, and assistance to help you begin the adventure of homeschooling in the Austin Metro.
WHO helps me Start?
“How to Get Started” at the Old Quarry Branch Library (7051 Village Center, Austin, TX 78731) – Repeats every last Thursday of a month 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, except November – it will be on Monday the 24th. Sponsored by the Christian Home Education Association of Central Texas (CHEACT). It’s Free.
Smoothing the Way – Monthly meetings building on your growing knowledge and experience. $75 lifetime membership includes: workbook, meetings, and webinars. Scholarships are available. For more information call: 512-639-9341.
The “Newcomers Guide” of the Austin Area Homeschoolers (AAH)- This group’s website contains many links to various topics in – Basics, AAH Activities, Legal Issues, Curriculum Issues, Maps of Parks, Resources. The AAH email list gives daily notices of sales, questions, and events.
Texas Home School Coalition (THSC)’s “Considering Home Schooling?” – Just the facts, particularly the legal ones, designed especially for Texans. Offers a free quarterly magazine. Members receive free legal assistance and discounts on homeschool resources.
